People with diabetes and their caregivers have an important story to tell. “Next to diabetes” is a documentary series about type 1 diabetes in children and caring for a child with type 1 diabetes. With the documentary series, we offer a glimpse into the lives of children with diabetes and their caregivers. We follow the ups and downs, the laughter and tears – and learn what it’s like to be next to diabetes.

A type 1 diabetes diagnosis can leave you shaken. Even more so if your child is diagnosed with diabetes. In such a situation, it's essential to understand that it is no one's fault. Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age, irrespective of shape and size. In the case of children and diabetes, the caregivers play an essential part of their lives, whether they be friends, family or doctors. Caring for a child with type 1 diabetes on a physical and mental level is especially important for children who need the help of people around them to cope with everyday life. The purpose of the series is to inspire caregivers all over the world and shed a light on the important role they play.
